Here are his usual very complete instructions. \nCoordinating Instructions and Timings. Riders will meet at 09.30am on Saturday 12th April at the bottom of the steps outside and under the Waterloo Station Victory Arch that is 50 yards up on the right from where York Road meets Mepham Street and Cab Road just before the road bridge. A short safety briefing will be given at 09.30am. The ride should arrive back at Waterloo Station before 2.00pm. \nMission. To cycle the iconic 4.25 mile course of the 170th Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race up the Middlesex bank of the Thames from the Race start line at Putney embankment to the finish post at Chiswick Bridge by Mortlake. The race first started in 1845 and is always held on a flood tide with crews rowing with the current. This years televised Boat race itself takes place the following day\, Sunday 13th April 2025 with the Women’s Race starting at 1.21pm followed by the Men’s Race starting at 2.21pm. \nRoute. This is a circular route that involves some great river views and enjoyable cycling in stages for about 20 miles in all. The route out is mostly along quieter roads but the river paths are only suitable for competent rider abilities. The return route is predominantly on cycle lanes\, via Hammersmith\, Kensington Gardens\, Buckingham Palace and back to Waterloo. \nRations and Water. There will be a coffee stop with loos prior to us reaching the race start line at Putney. We will stop for lunch near the race finish at Chiswick Bridge and riders are advised to bring their own picnic lunch. \nChecks and Equipment.  Riders are urged to pre-check their bikes e.g. A = Air in tyres\, B = Brakes\, C= Chain & gears etc. The river route can be gusty thus Riders are advised to bring: a warm fleece\, waterproof top/trousers. \nAbout Southwark Healthy Rides. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The ride leader will be on the 9.03 from London Liverpool St which is meant to arrive at Shenfield around 9.25. We will ride through some pretty Essex villages\, mostly on quiet country lanes\, but since there are some busier sections this is a ride for experienced riders. However\, it will not be fast\, we will wait for everyone and there are fewer climbs than on our Kent and Surrey rides. There are a couple of hills and at least one fast descent. We climb hills slowly and do try to stick to a rolling average of around 16kph which means a bit faster than that on the flat and descents. Id like if possible to be back at Shenfield Station for the return train at about 4pm so that should allow plenty of time for a decent lunch stop\, photographs etc. \nPlease make sure you bring spare inner tubes\, snacks and weather appropriate clothing. Also ensure your bike is prepared. Sunset is later now\, but in case of any issues that might make us later than expected\, bring lights for your homeward journey from the station. \nRead our general ride information on our website \nGeneral Ride Information \n\nIf you still have questions contact the ride leader\, F Lewisham Cyclists Rides Coordinator\, on 07395 153782 or via our email lewishamcyclists@gmail.com \nRoute will be circulated by email to registered riders. After the regrettably necessary climb to Riddlesdown Common we ride through it and on to Kings Wood for a ride around. We’ll stop for coffee and a bite before Sanderstead then ride back with a trip through Croham Hurst\, which is lovely woodland near central Croydon. \nThis is basically a gravel ride got to by road. So wider tyres are better. 35mm is the narrowest I recommend as the track can be bumpy. Once you have climbed to Riddlesdown Common there isn’t much hill for the rest of the ride. That climb is 1500 metres in lowest gear. The first 500m is 5-7% gradient\, the next 1000m 3-4% getting easier nearer the top. \nWe leave from Queens Gardens CR0 1GY at 10am and return there. I can’t easily guess how long we will take. It is a short ride but slow. Lets say back by 2pm. \nPlease bring a spare inner tube. \nhttps://www.komoot.com/tour/2104635767?share_token=afg9JCnyEY387jY2JfJrm3CED6xHRidWITqKk75xTA4zDX0ugW&ref=wtd URL:https://lcc.org.uk/events/riddlesdown-common-and-kings-wood-croham-hurst/ LOCATION:Queens Gardens\, Park Lane\, Croydon\, CR0 1GY\, United Kingdom CATEGORIES:Rides,Health rides ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://lcc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/20250326_121106-40.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="Croydon Social Cycling Group":MAILTO:CroydonSocialCyclingGroup@proton.me GEO:51.3719712;-0.096581 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Queens Gardens Park Lane Croydon CR0 1GY United Kingdom;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=Park Lane:geo:-0.096581,51.3719712 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Europe/London:20250406T100000 DTEND;TZID=Europe/London:20250406T140000 DTSTAMP:20250418T015410 CREATED:20250203T160743Z LAST-MODIFIED:20250328T111624Z UID:10001280-1743933600-1743948000@lcc.org.uk SUMMARY:Newham Nature Reserve Ride DESCRIPTION:An easy paced 10 mile/ 16 km ride based on the nature reserves along the River Lea  using off road tracks\, cycle lanes and quiet roads.  Starting and finishing at the View Tube the ride takes in Walthamstow Wetlands\, the Middlesex Filter Beds\, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and more.\nPlease bring a drink\, a snack\, a spare inner tube for your bike if you have one\, and money for any refreshments you wish to buy. \nNewham Cyclists will come equipped to cope with minor running repairs such as punctures and brake adjustments. \nPlease book to guarantee a place.
