DESCRIPTION:Learn how to fix your bike and get repairs done for free! \nOur expert mechanics will help you check and make minor repairs to your bike. \nChildren\, teenagers and young people particularly welcome. \nArrive with your bike to this free drop-in session. When it’s your turn\, the mechanic will show you how to check your bike and then teach you how to do any necessary repair yourself. While you’re waiting for your turn\, you can observe what others are doing. We have a full set of tools and some basic spare parts (brake pads\, cables\, inner tubes\, repair kits). If your bike needs a part we haven’t got\, then you can bring it with you to the next workshop. \nWe plan to focus on easily do-able repairs\, like brakes\, cables\, tyres/inner tubes\, tuning gears etc\, as these are the type of things you can do yourself in the future. If your bike requires a complex\, time-consuming repair we will advise you on how to get it done. \nThese are free drop-in sessions and we sometimes get quite busy so apologies if you have to wait. \nThe workshops are jointly organised with Transition Kentish Town and are free but donations will be welcome.

SUMMARY:North Westminster Cycle Saturdays
DESCRIPTION:North Westminster Cycle Saturdays is on the 3rd Saturday of every month meeting at Westminster Wheels\, Church Street. \nEasy Bike Ride\, 11am\n \nEach month there is an easy bike ride led by one of our instructors. This will be a safe and social and fun ride around Westminster and a great way to learn new routes and have an active start to the weekend. These are led by a professional instructor with marshal support from local volunteers. These are aimed at families with kids and also for adults who want to learn new routes in the neighbourhood and get more confidence. You need to bring your own bike to join in. Bring a coat\, a drink and some snacks – or some money to buy something when we stop. Please register everyone attending below. \n Level 2 & Level 3 cycle skills sessions for Cycle Buddies 11am-1pm \nA qualified cycling instructor will be giving a 3-to-1 group cycle session on how to ride confidently on quiet roads (level 2) and busier roads  including sharing space with large vehicles and buses (level 3). This is aimed at Cycle Buddies volunteers and for people who would like to help marshal the family rides. \nBikes available to borrow: \nThere are a small number of bikes available to borrow from Westminster Wheels\, this is at the discretion of the management of the shop and conditions apply. \nTimings: \nMeet at 11am for a 11:05 start\, stop for a break half way\, back to Church Street by approximately 12:30. SUMMARY:Inclusive Cycle Buddies Part 2: Supporting disabled cyclists with Wheels for Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Inclusive Cycle Buddies Training is a bespoke course we have commissioned Wheels for Wellbeing to design and produce specifically for our Cycle Buddies programme.  The training will create the opportunity for Cycle Buddies to support the Wheels4Me inclusive cycle loan scheme through the Cycle Buddies platform. \nThe course is in 2 parts. The first part is an online 1.5 hour session. The second part is an in-person experience of cycling with and lead by disability cyclists. There are two options for part 2 of the course. Option 1 is to take part in a training day at Herne Hill Velodrome on either the 18th May or 18th June. The alternative option is join oe of the regular Wheels for Wellbeing led rides for disabled cyclists. Option 2 is by arrangement. \nThis course is free and exclusively for Cycle Buddies. \nFind out more about Wheels for Wellbeing and Wheels4Me. \nPart 1: Disability Equity and Etiquette for Cycle Buddies \n\n1.5 hour online disability equity training\, up to 40 participants\, date\nOutline: This course will enable participants to feel resourced and confident in buddying Disabled cyclists. The course provides an overview of disability in the UK and uses a disability-rights perspective to explore the different models/approaches to disability\, the preferred language\, terminology and approach of Disabled people\, including the contrasting roles of charities and Disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) and the differences between equality and equity. The course is interactive and encourages open discussion and includes activities on navigating everyday terminology and identifying rights-based approaches.\n\nPart 2 option 1:Experiential Inclusive Cycling Training Day (x2) \n\nLogistics: 5 hour\, in-person training at Herne Hill Velodrome (HHV)\, 18th May or 15th June\, 10:00-15:00\, max 12 participants per day.\nParticipants will need to bring: Packed lunch; clothes that are suitable to cycle in; note-taking equipment (e.g. pen and paper\, laptop etc)\nOutline: This training will equip staff with the knowledge and experience required to be a well-informed\, confident cycle buddy for Disabled people. Content includes: understanding key issues for Disabled cyclists\, cycle types and adaptations\, infrastructure and other issues to consider for accessible cycling\, supporting Disabled people cycling on and off the road. The day will include a short classroom learning session with the majority of the training being experiential including\, observation\, hands-on experience with cycles\, discussions with Disabled cyclists\, cycling experience with non-standard cycles and Disabled cyclists and input from the cycling ops team\, campaigns and policy team\, and Disabled cyclists.\n\nPart 2 option 2: Led Ride Experiential Learning \n\nJoin a regular WfW led ride (from HHV) learn about planning accessible rides and speak with disabled cyclists\, accompany their ride with the option of borrowing a non-standard cycle for additional hands-on experience.\nRides usually take place on a Tuesday morning for up to 3 hours and one Sunday per month\, but additional rides take place for special events through the year. 1 LCC participant per led ride.

SUMMARY:Ride marshal training for London Cycling Festival
DESCRIPTION:This course is an introduction to the role of Ride Marshal with London Cycling Campaign. \nLocal LCC groups run a number of different types of led-rides such as:\n– family rides/community rides aimed at new and returning cyclists\, these are mostly in the local neighbourhood and link up green spaces\, quiet ways and popular places and activate new cycling insfrastructure\n– protest and campaigning rides aimed at drawing attention to a particular campaign or infrastructure need\n– health and leisure rides mostly for social\, leisure and site seeing\, often for more confident cyclists and popular with regular attendees\n– feeder rides which can be quite big and complex and travel in from the local borough to events in the centre of London such as the LCC Women’s Freedom Ride and FreeCycle. \nThis course is intended as an introduction for people who would like to get more involved with rides in their local group or with other groups around London. It is also a refresher course for people who are already helping on rides regularly. It is open to anyone who is considering volunteering as a Ride Marshal with LCC and is suitable for cyclists who are confident riding on the road. The role of ride marshal is sometimes called ride assisstant. \nThe course is spilt in to two parts. The first part is class room based and participants discuss and explore the different elements of being a ride marshal. We look at how the Ride Leader would prepare for a ride\, how they plan the ride to keep it safe\, what does a risk assessment look like\, what to expect on the ride itself\, and most importantly the key tasks the ride leader is going to ask the ride marshals to perform. \nThe second part is a practical session on the road where participants will have a go at the various marshal roles with the group on the road\, as well as taking on the other roles of Backstop and ride leader. \nYou need: \n\nYour own bike (in working order) and lock\nSome snacks\nTo take all your belongings with you – once the classroom session is finished\, the group will leave the classroom and won’t return\nWeather appropriate clothes\nTo arrive on time\n\nThe venue allows us to take the bikes inside during the classroom element. The instructors will provide tabards for the practical session. \nNB: Please arrive on time!

SUMMARY:Kentish Town Pedals
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a friendly bike ride to explore the local area\, keep active\, build cycling confidence and have fun. \nThis short monthly bike ride is suitable for everyone – we get moving at a gentle pace with regular stops along the way whenever we need to. We usually cycle about 5-6 miles in total and always have a longer stop at a café to relax with refreshments when we reach halfway. The whole ride takes about two hours including the break. \nThe ride is especially suitable for you if any of the following apply: \n\nyou have recently learned or are returning to cycling and would like to build your confidence at cycling in the local area.\nyou would like to improve your overall fitness with some gentle exercise and movement – it’s a similar level of effort to going for a walk.\nyou are keen to spend time outdoors connecting with nature and the local community.\nyou would like to meet people and take part in a fun activity together.\n\nYou don’t have to be an experienced cyclist to take part\, as long as you can can steer\, pedal and use your brakes then this ride will be suitable. If you are a complete beginner you should get a free lesson from Camden Council first and then join our rides after you’ve learned the basics. \nThis is a regular ride happening on the first Saturday of each month. The route varies each time typically via cycleways\, quiet roads and parks – we always include a refreshment stop. The ride is organised by Camden Cyclists in collaboration with local NHS GP practices. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a quick chat about the ride before joining\, please email Suzanne at ktride@camdencyclists.org.uk. \nBorrowing a bike:\nWe have a couple of bikes available to borrow\, you can reserve one together with your place using the form below. You need to arrive a little earlier at 9:45am so we can get the bike set up for you before we start. If you would like to wear a helmet\, we do have a couple available to borrow with the bikes\, but please bring your own if you have access to one as this will ensure it fits well. \nBike checkups:\nIf you haven’t used your bike for a while\, you might be struggling with flat tyres\, worn brake pads and more… We do bike checkups and a mini-workshop to make minor repairs before we set off. You need to arrive a little earlier at 9:30am if you would like a bike checkup. \nBook your free place:\nYou can book your place on the ride and reserve a bike using the forms below. \nIf you need to cancel please email us at ktride@camdencyclists.org.uk so we can free up the space for others. \n(You can also email us if you would like to come on a ride that is full or if there are no more bikes available and we will add you to a waiting list.) \n\nRide checklist\n\nCheck the forecast and bring clothing suitable for the weather (including gloves if it is cold).\nWater bottle – we’ll have a few stops along the way.\nBike lock if you have one (if not we can lock multiple bikes together).\nThere will be a refreshment break with a cafe if you would like to buy a drink and snack or you can also bring your own.\nToilets available at the refreshment break\, but not usually at the start and end of the ride.\nPlease arrive by 10am for a quick ride briefing.
