Summary
A weekend cycle tour starting from Grantham in Lincolnshire with an overnight stay in Peterborough, then continuing to Ely the next day where the tour finishes. The route follows mostly minor roads avoiding A and B roads as far as possible, and the terrain is largely quite flat. The route should be ideal for experienced cyclists new to cycle touring. Participants will need to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
Riders are required to register and attend the Pre-Tour Briefing Ride from Maidenhead to Ealing Broadway on Sunday 9 March https://lcc.org.uk/events/ealing-cycling-campaign-pre-tour-briefing-ride-from-maidenhead-to-ealing-via-windsor/ . This will comprise of further tour information, basic mechanical skills training and lunch for everyone to meet each other. If unable to attend, please attend one of the upcoming Ealing LCC Sunday monthly leisure rides for a one-to-one briefing instead.
Sat 12 April: Grantham to Peterborough 66km (41 miles)
Route: Grantham; Welby Heath; Welby; Ropsley; Lenton; Hawthorpe; Bulby; Elsthorpe; Fox Wood; Cowthorpe; Bourne; Thurlby Fen; Baston Common; Langtoft Common; Deeping Common; Frognall; Deeping St James; Peakirk; Peterborough.
This route is about 95% on road with 5% being off road that includes farm tracks which can be rutted and muddy in wet weather.
Sun 13 April: Peterborough to Ely 57km (35 miles)
Route: Whittlesey; Flag Fen; Glass Moor; Mere Side; Ramsey Forty Foot; Beezling Fen; Chatteris; Ferry Hill; North Fen; Sutton Gault; Sutton; Witchford; Ely.
Route is about 98% on road and 2% off road which can be bumpy & muddy in wet weather.
