Here are the commendably full instructions from Ride Leader Jamie.
Mission
To cycle the iconic 26.6-mile London Marathon Route from start to finish.
This LCC event IS NOT A RACE but takes place at a constant pace some of which is on main roads. This ride is suitable for competent, fit and experienced riders.
Coordinating Instructions and Timings
Riders will meet at 09.30am sharp on Saturday 26th April at the Statue of General James Wolfe next to the Prime Meridian Line Museum at the top of Greenwich Park, SE10 8XJ.
A short safety briefing will be given at 09.30am.
The ride will finish near the Admiralty Arch by approx. 2.30pm but please note that timings cannot be guaranteed. Charing Cross Station is nearby for Riders to get home.
Route
We are fortunate to have Simon Kenward with us again for this ride. Simon is a veteran of several London Marathons and is still involved with the London Marathon executive organizing group. Simon will be pointing out some of the most challenging sections for the marathon runners. The route is, of course, the London Marathon Route. Greenwich Park, Woolwich, Tower Bridge, Isle of Dogs, Victoria Embankment, The Mall/Admiralty Arch. It is a long way – even on a bike. Come suitably prepared.
Rations and Water
We will stop for a 30-minute coffee break/snack at Dock Head near Tower Bridge.
ABC checks and Equipment
Riders are urged to pre-check their bikes e.g. A = Air in tyres, B = Brakes, C= Chain & gears,
and to ensure there is no play in their steering.
Riders are further advised to bring: a warm fleece, waterproof top/trousers.
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.
